Refrigerating the ham and cheese pinwheels is a crucial step that enhances both their shape and flavor. When you refrigerate the assembled pinwheels, the cream cheese filling firms up, making it easier to slice into neat, uniform pieces. Additionally, chilling allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a more cohesive taste experience.

Ingredients

1 large flour tortilla or wrap

4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp garlic powder

1 cup sliced deli ham

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup sliced green onions

1/4 cup finely chopped red bell pepper

Optional: fresh herbs (like dill or parsley) for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder. Mix until smooth and well blended.

Spread the Mixture: Lay the tortilla or wrap flat on a clean surface. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the tortilla.

Layer the Filling: Start layering the sliced deli ham evenly over the cream cheese spread, followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese. Add the sliced green onions and chopped red bell pepper evenly across the top.

Roll it Up: Starting from one side, carefully roll the tortilla tightly into a log shape. Ensure it’s compact to make slicing easier and prevent the filling from spilling out.

Chill the Pinwheels: Wrap the rolled tortilla in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help it firm up.

Slice and Serve: Once chilled, remove the tortilla from the fridge and unwrap it. Using a sharp knife, slice it into 1-inch wide pinwheels. Arrange them on a platter, and if desired, garnish with fresh herbs for a pop of color and added flavor.

Enjoy: These savory ham & cheese pinwheels can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, making them perfect for lunch, parties, or snacks!
