1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Sauce:

1 teaspoon olive oil

1 teaspoon dried basil

4 sub rolls or hoagie buns

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Extra chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Olive oil for brushing the rolls

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

    Make the Meatballs:

      - In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).

        - Mix well until all ingredients are combined, but be careful not to overmix.

          - Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

            Bake the Meatballs:

              - Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

                Prepare the Sauce:

                  - In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add marinara sauce and dried basil, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes to warm the sauce and allow the flavors to meld.

                    Assemble the Subs:

                      - While the meatballs are baking, brush the sub rolls with a little olive oil and toast them lightly in the oven for about 5 minutes.

                        - Once the meatballs are ready, remove them from the oven and place about 3-4 meatballs in each toasted sub roll.

                          - Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs, then sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.

                            Melt the Cheese:

                              - Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                                Serve:

                                  - Remove from the oven, garnish with extra chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious cheesy turkey meatball subs!
