Instructions

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, instant yeast, and ground cinnamon. In a separate bowl, mix the warm apple cider, melted butter, and egg until combined. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and knead until a soft dough forms, about 5-7 minutes.

Let It Rise: Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.

Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon for the filling. Set it aside.

Roll It Out: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Spread the Filling: Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough evenly. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the butter. Then, scatter the diced apples and nuts (if using) evenly on top.

Roll It Up: Starting from the longer edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal and cut the log into 12 equal sections.

Make the Sticky Topping: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, add the brown sugar, apple cider, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Stir until the mixture bubbles and thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.

Assemble the Sticky Buns: Pour the sticky topping mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Carefully place the cut rolls on top of the sticky mixture, making sure they are snug but not crowded.

Second Rise: Cover the pan and let the rolls rise again until puffy, about 30-45 minutes.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the sticky buns for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Cool and Drizzle: Let the buns cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. While they cool, whisk together the powdered sugar and apple cider until smooth. Drizzle this mixture over the warm sticky buns.

Serve and Enjoy: Gently invert the sticky buns onto a serving platter, so the sticky topping is on top. Serve warm and enjoy the cozy flavors of fall!
